About
Till recently, India was fairly insulated from the ups and downs of world economy. Most of the production and the consumption was within India. However, from the beginning of the software boom, through the y2k period, till now, the dependency on foriegn enterprises for revenues has been steadily increasing.
Even during this period, when the dot-com bust happened, while the US economy yo-yo’ed, only a few Indian companies were affected. The larger Indian companies including the software companies that depended heavily on US companies for business appeared to be largely resilient.
But, this time, the news may not be so good. The financial crisis that has hit the world has not left India unaffected. The first signs are already there - with a lot of companies slowing down production and/or laying off people.
While most of the developed world has seen depressions and lay offs before, the concept is largely new to India.
While we all hope that the down-turn will go away soon and we can all get back our lives, the outlook does look a little bleak. There is neither government support nor societal support for people who get laid off, especially here in India. In fact, there isn’t even a support group available for such people.
That is the reason for this site. This site is meant for people who have been laid off to come and meet and interact with people in a similar situation and those who have successfully taken positive steps to improve their circumstances.
